BOTOX smoothes and softens wrinkles by weakening the underlying muscle. Viridian Medical only uses BOTOX® from Allergan, who were the first company to have a license for it’s use in the UK. BOTOX has been used worldwide in more extensive cosmetic and medical situations for over 20 years eg. For eye squints, muscle spasticity, wry necks, and in the treatment of migraines.

Cosmetically it is very effective for the upper face, and is most successful if used before the wrinkle or frown becomes etched on the face. After treatment the face wrinkles are softened considerably or disappear altogether.

BOTOX® is excellent for:
Vertical frown lines between the eyebrows - the most commonly requested area;
Horizontal frown lines on the forehead
‘Crows feet’ around the eyes.

BOTOX® is also very effective in men, but more toxin is used as the muscle as are stronger and bulkier in most men.

Prior to treatment the patient will always have a proper consultation. This consultation and any treatment with Botox can occur at the same appointment if desired. Alternatively there may be other methods suitable to address specific patient needs so a general discussion about preferred treatment options, including Botox, is also common place. You may chose to return at a later date having considered the options. This consultation process is highly important and ensures that the patient is made aware of possible side effects and the small risk of complications. Any risks are however rare and temporary. Photography is also highly desirable and is kept as a record and forms part of the consultation period. Botox consultancies will take place at either our facility in Guildford, Surrey or Windsor in Berkshire. Both are easily reachable from London and surrounding counties such as Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Kent and Sussex.

Performing the procedures is fairly quick, and lasts about ten minutes. BOTOX® is used in tiny doses and is injected into the muscles of the face. The areas to be treated are marked out first, and ice is applied before the injection. Careful preparation avoids the client being left with a surprised look, or pointed eyebrows (Spock eye brows) At Viridian Medical we are aware that the frozen look, overuse of Botox, asymetric or peculiar looking brows are the give away sign of “having been Botoxed” and our techniques are refined to avoiding this from occurring.

The results of BOTOX are NOT instant. They can take 4 to 10 days to take effect and depend on the individual.

The procedure is usually fairly painless as the needles are such a fine gauge. There is a tiny red marking which fades within an hour and is barely noticeable. At each session, the forehead can be injected up to ten times, between the brows up to six times, and around the eyes three to four times each side. The number of injections depends on the extent of the problem and how smooth the desired effect.

Awareness of aftercare is important; avoiding alcohol immediately afterwards. To ensure this, the patient is supplied with a separate aftercare information sheet.

It is recommended that in the first year 3-4 treatments are applied to each area and then top-ups of 1-2 times per year as the muscles treated become less strong.

It is sometimes necessary to perform a small top up at 2 weeks to treat any areas that haven’t responded to the treatment. It is important to understand this is NOT an exact science, I make an estimate of how much toxin to use in each area on my perception of the strength of the frown.

Any remaining lines that are etched into the skin can be treated with a Restylane filler product.
